What is Consciousness?

One of my clients sent me this video (thanks Michael!) and I absolutely love it. It’s Joe Rogan having a rant about things like the mystery of consciousness, reality, the nature of the universe, and how little we really know in the scheme of things. “I’m not sure what this is and I don’t think you are either,” says Rogan.

Indeed. We can get so preoccupied with the physical and material world, that we often forget how limited our scope of understanding is. Even so called ‘normal’ things that we do everyday, such as talking on the telephone and communicating over the internet, are really quite surreal when you stop to think about them. “If life wasn’t real, it would be the craziest psychedelic trip ever,” he says.

And what role does the imagination play? Where does it stop and begin? “I’m thinking that this whole thing might be someone’s imagination. It might be your imagination. It might be my imagination. It might be a combination of everyone’s imagination. I mean, things are real. There’s real laws to this life. But goddamn, it operates like a work of fiction.”

I often wonder about many of the things Rogan mulls over and if you’re reading this blog, you probably do too.

Strong language warning.
