It’s easy to feel pessimistic about the future of our world. Particularly when you switch on the news and see the complete idiots who are in charge. From Covid to climate change, and from deforestation to wildfires, it seems like our lovely blue planet is careening towards an inevitable demise.

But whilst it’s easy to get caught up in the drama of the world stage, it helps to step back and look at the bigger picture that is playing out. God, spirit, the universe, consciousness… whatever you want to call it, there is a transcendental force that permeates our universe. This divine intelligence is constantly evolving towards higher levels of complexity.

Indeed. From the birth of the first stars to the development of planetary systems… And from the creation of single-celled organisms to the existence of intelligent, self-aware beings… we are part of a great cosmic force that has been unfolding since the beginning of time.

This force is self-organising at every level. It is far beyond our ability to truly understand, but it knows exactly what it is doing. This awareness, coupled with the following eleven trends, are why I think we can be hopeful about the future…

1. Renewables Are Here

Renewables offer us a clear path to a sustainable world. More of our energy is now coming from renewables. They are more efficient and more affordable than fossil fuels. Markets are investing billions of dollars into renewable companies and governments are launching clean energy packages to help kick-start the economy following the impacts of the pandemic. This trend is set to continue with the coming EV revolution and will evolve rapidly over the next ten years.

2. Fossil Fuels Are Dying Out

Coal, oil, gas…. don’t let the door hit you on the way out! Big banks and investors are pulling out of fossil fuels in droves to protect their portfolios as demand falls. Many institutions are now actively supporting a shift to net-zero emissions by 2050 in their corporate policies. Large insurers are refusing to underwrite new coal projects. Energy giants like BP are permanently shutting down their oil refineries.

3. Environmental Awareness is Expanding

Public concern for the environment is at an all time high and continues to grow. People want their governments to act on the environment. We want action on climate change. We want to preserve what is left of the remaining wilderness areas and the diverse wildlife of our planet. More people are recycling, composting and adapting to a greener way of life. This, combined with the two trends mentioned above, suggests we are at a tipping point.

4. Population Growth is Slowing

After an exponential growth rate during the 20th century, the global population is now slowing down. Improvements in access to modern contraception and the education of girls and women mean that the world population is now on track to plateau at the turn of the 21st century.

5. Space Exploration is Increasing

The commercialisation of space exploration is inspiring a new generation of humanity. With an ever increasing amount of launches and the establishment of new settlements on the moon and Mars as this century unfolds, the way that we perceive ourselves is likely to change. No longer confined by the boundaries of race or nations, we will see ourselves as a single, space exploring species, originating from our home planet: Earth.

6. The Monetary System is Transforming

Our current financial system is not only inefficient, but easily corrupted. Blockchain and the emergence of cryptocurrencies governed by open source networks have the potential to create a decentralized, peer-to-peer financial system. This one trend alone has the capacity to completely transform the structure of our global society into a truly democratic system, free from the control of a ruling elite.

7. AI is Here

Deep learning algorithms and neural networks are a technological expression of consciousness. As AI continues to develop it is being applied to create a safer, more sustainable world. AI can take over repetitive and dangerous tasks usually performed by humans. As we free ourselves up from work that is unsafe and unsatisfying, we will have the opportunity to explore vocations for passion and purpose instead. AI can help us climb Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to create a more enlightened world.

8. Psychedelics and Altered States of Consciousness are Now Accepted

There is far more to reality than meets the eye and a much bigger purpose that we are here for. Psychedelics offer a vehicle to explore multidimensional reality and insights into the nature of consciousness. They have been a solution to addiction, depression and anxiety for many. Several innovative companies are now well underway with clinical trials to provide evidence-based results for using psychedelics in mental health. This, combined with the increasing legalisation of psychedelics, will see humanity continue to explore and expand its collective consciousness.

9. Healthcare is Improving

Innovation and the increase of shared information online means that global healthcare is improving quality and longevity of life. Developments in areas such as AI, robotics and big data is revolutionising the medical system and this trend will continue to grow exponentially. Greater awareness of wellbeing means we are moving towards a more holistic form of wellness, one that approaches the human body as an interconnected system.

10. We are Becoming More Technologically Interconnected

60 percent of the world’s population is now online and this continues to increase rapidly. As more and more people become connected on the internet we are creating the infrastructure for a global nervous system of a planetary superoganism. As we program our planetary mind and combine this with developments in areas such as AI, satellite internet constellations, and blockchain we will move into a new age of interconnectivity and self-reflection.

11. Consciousness is Awakening

The awakening of consciousness is driving a great shift that has been predicted by many over the millennia. Our capacity for self awareness and self-reflection continues to increase as consciousness expands. There is an ever-growing movement taking shape on our planet helping a new way of thinking to unfold. You can help play your part during this pivotal time by discovering your purpose and activating this. To find out how you can do this, click here.

Conclusion

There will likely be many more uncomfortable tipping points in the years to come. The evolution of consciousness is a messy affair. But the cracks in the old paradigm are growing and the light of higher consciousness is beginning to shine through. As we march towards a critical mass of a more enlightened collective consciousness, our world is transforming. Humanity is finally growing up. Keep going fellow journeyer… this dance has only just begun.
